David R. Labrum
David R. Labrum, businessman from Roosevelt, Utah will be campaigning for the District 54 House of Representative seat currently held by Rep. Gordon Snow. Snow is not running for re-election and will be endorsing Labrum in his bid for the seat in District 54.
David, father of seven and grandfather of 21, returned to his home in Roosevelt from his LDS service as President in the Quezon City Philippines Mission in July of 2007. The last thing on his mind when he returned from his mission was to run for the Utah Legislature, but that is just what Rep. Gordon Snow, R-Utah, asked him to do. Snow, who had decided to end his 10-year career in public service, felt that Labrum would be the ideal person to fill his seat.
Labrum has officially filed his candidacy, and hopes to have the opportunity to continue Snow's legacy by serving in the Utah House. He has already started traveling with Snow to legislative and community meetings to become familiar with the way the House of Representatives works. "I am so excited to have somebody of Dave's caliber,” remarked Snow; “He will represent us well, if he’s elected.”
Gordon Snow
When Rep. Gordon Snow announced his decision not to run for re-election after 10 years in the Utah State Legislature many were surprised, but he simply said that the time is right. However, before he made up his mind, Snow made sure there was the possibility of a successor he could support. Snow said that candidate that he will be endorsing in the upcoming election is Dave Labrum, a Roosevelt car dealer, who has also served the community for several years in a variety of capacities.
Snow will be missed in the Legislature by many, including Rep. David Clark. Clark served as the House Majority Leader while Snow served as House Majority Whip for the past two years. Clark stated, “I think one of the things he (Snow) is most deeply respected for in the Legislature has to do with his personal integrity and honesty, what he says is well thought out and fact-based. You know that Gordon will be fair, he will stick with his decisions.”
With the support from such a well respected man as Gordon Snow, Dave is excited at the possibility of serving in the Legislature and giving back to the great State of Utah in a similar fashion as Snow has. Labrum feels he knows the basics of being a good public servant already and plans to stick with what he knows. Labrum learned on the school board, "you just can't make everybody happy…you have to go with what you think is right,” he said. “You go with your principles and morals. I just feel like I have enough experience in life that I can make common sense and reasonable decisions."
